Canon EOS 300D Flash?

Okay, so my brother gave me his Canon EOS 300D ... it works and all the flash and I can .. see the picture during playback, but if I take a picture of the "no-flash mode, the lenses are black and does not save the image to play my thing. HELP in the nuts.

The lens is not black. What happens is, you are not selecting the correct exposure using the camera light meter.
