Are these good cameras?

Both are excellent quality Cameras. Below is a link to a Web page lists and compares the two cameras side by side so you can compare the features and specifications. I would ensure get the new Canon 550D, as most certainly added improvements like the ability to increase an external audio microphone possible, the large value when this video. A further improvement / advantage of the newer 550D over the 500D is a newer Reviewed sensor (see second link below). Hope this helps. Mark
