Novice friendly, professional camera?

My first child is to Christmas this year and I would like to make good quality of images / her as soon as they are born. However, I am new to this whole professional shooting and was wondering what a good starter camera are one. Something that someone with good Take pictures. I was T1i view of Canon EOS Rebel on Amazon.com with EF-S 18-55mm IS lens. Is this a good camera to start with? Any professional photographers out there, something else ? Recommend Better price?
