Canon Eos D30 Lens

What is a good basic, all-purpose lens for my Canon eos D30?

I'm looking to get a different lens and I am lost in picking one out.

The D30 was pre the EF-s mount and as such you are restricted to EF mount lenses or thrid party EF mount lenses that are designed for your cameras APS-C sensor, such as the Sigma DC series lenses.

The ideal walkaround lens for your camera is their 18-50 f3.5-5.6 DC lens. Only available used now, for around £50, covers you for most situations. If you want more reach go for the 55-200mm EF II (not the 55-250 Ef-s) as this is a cheap light lens, well up to the resolution of your camera.

I don;t wish to be unkind but you can pick up the far better Canon 10D for next to nothing these days, giving a better rear screen, better AF, decent build etc. A lot more camera for not a lot of money, though it's still strictly speaking an EF mount camera.

Even a digital rebel /300D would open the door to using the EF-s mount,
