Those numbers are only model numbers nothing more.

I own a 1000D and it's an excellent camera. I've had mine for over a year with great results. Like this:

The 18-55 is a good lens, not great but quite good. I've had pretty good results with this lens.
My primary lens however is the Canon 28-200 - Fast, sharp and accurate at $400/retail.
